Glossary
The terms you will meet in a quote.
Fourteen words that come up between a brief and a delivery, in plain English.
- Approved sample
- The sample you sign off before bulk production. Bulk is checked against it, and it is kept for reorders.
- Bulk
- The full production run, made once the sample is approved.
- Colourway
- One colour combination of a design. Two colourways of the same glove are two runs of material and branding.
- DAP and DDP
- Delivery terms (Incoterms). Under DAP the goods reach your door and you pay the import duty; under DDP the seller pays the duty too.
- DTF (direct to film)
- A logo printed onto film, then heat-pressed onto the product: multi-colour detail on almost any material.
- EORI number
- The number a business needs to import goods into the UK or the EU. Your courier or customs broker will ask for it.
- GSP+ and DCTS
- The EU's and the UK's trade schemes that can reduce or remove import duty on qualifying goods made in Pakistan.
- MOQ
- Minimum order quantity: the smallest run a maker will produce of a product. It can be counted per design, per colourway or per size.
- Ounces (oz)
- A boxing glove's weight, most of it padding. A heavier glove carries more padding.
- Private label
- Products made to your specification and sold under your own brand, labels and packaging.
- PU leather
- Synthetic polyurethane leather: a lower cost per piece, an even surface for bright colours, and no animal leather.
- Statement on origin
- The exporter's declaration that goods were made in Pakistan, needed to claim a GSP+ or DCTS duty reduction.
- Sublimation
- Printing where the dye goes into polyester fabric, so a full-colour design runs edge to edge and cannot crack or peel.
- Tech pack
- The document that specifies a product: measurements, materials, artwork placement and the bill of materials.
