Gi types

BJJ gis, belts and no-gi kit for an academy

The weave sets how the gi feels, grips and dries; the size scale follows who wears it. Belts and no-gi kit can go on the same order.

  • Pearl weave gis

A small, tight, bead-like weave: lighter and softer, and strong for its weight. The usual choice for academy training and for competition.

    Pearl weave cotton
  • Gold weave gis

A heavier, thicker weave that is harder to grip and very hard-wearing, for grapplers who want a substantial gi. It takes longer to dry.

    Gold weave cotton
  • Kids' gis

Junior gis on the M scale, in the same colours and print as the academy's adult gis.

    M0–M4
  • BJJ belts

Rank belts from white to black, made to go with the academy's gis.

    White to black
  • Rash guards and spats

No-gi rash guards and spats in spandex, Lycra and polyester blends, sublimated to match the gis.

    Usually sublimated

Weaves

Pearl weave or gold weave cotton

Both are heavyweight basket-weave cotton, cut and printed the same way. The choice is about weight, grip and how quickly the gi dries.

Pearl weaveGold weave

Pearl weave

Best for — Academy training gis and competition, where a lighter gi helps a competitor make weight.

  • Lighter than gold weave
  • Soft and flexible against the skin
  • Strong for its weight
  • Dries more quickly

Gold weave

Best for — Durability-focused training and grapplers who want a gi that feels substantial.

  • Heavier and thicker
  • Harder for an opponent to grip
  • Very hard-wearing and absorbent

Questions

Custom BJJ gis — common questions

Choose a question and the answer comes back beside it.

BJJ gis

Pearl weave or gold weave: which should we choose?

Pearl weave is lighter, softer and quicker to dry, which makes it the usual all-round choice for training and competition. Gold weave is heavier and thicker, harder to grip and very hard-wearing, but slower to dry. The weave is confirmed on your sample gi.
